Changes in the global political and economic environment challenge the market to meet new demands which call for the development of new, integrated processes and the optimization of conventional materials. Building on over 80 years of experience in the industry, KOCKS anticipates future trends and provides targeted support for trial rollings and respective research projects even at an early stage.

WHEN THEORY REACHES ITS LIMITATIONS

FROM FEASIBILITY TO
ROLLING CONCEPT

Every development project starts with a question: Will this work – and under which conditions? With the scope of the customer’s project in mind, KOCKS specialists provide detailed analysis and evaluation of feasibility.

At the end of each project, stands a detailed final report. This structured documentation helps customers to communicate results, support investment decisions and define next steps in process or product development.

The Report includes:

  • A concise summary of the main findings
  • Technical analysis of the rolling process and material behaviour
  • Documentation of test parameters and results
  • Recommendations for further actions and potential implementation

REAL DATA FROM REAL CONDITIONS

HOT ROLLING TRIALS
IN THE 3-ROLL MILL

The testing facilities in Bremen, Northern Germany, are equipped with a KOCKS 3‑roll block that allows trials under realistic rolling conditions. The pilot equipment is designed to generate meaningful, transferable results – reducing uncertainty and supporting sound technical and economic decisions.

Benefits of the set-up

  • Validate new ideas under realistic conditions
  • Reduce technical and economic risk before full‑scale implementation
  • Optimize processes and explore new material and size ranges

EXPLORING THE LIMITS

SPECIALTY STEELS OR
CRITITICAL ALLOYS

A major field of research at KOCKS has been the “rollability” of different materials and specialty steels. The hot rolling trials focus on process optimization and on rolling smallest possible sizes e.g. to provide material for filler and additive manufacturing, avoid high conventional production costs or reduce or eliminate intermediate heat treatments.

The test equipment is designed to conduct experiments on critical materials such as:

  • Titanium
  • Nickel
  • Cobalt
  • Molybdenum
  • Tungsten
  • Copper

TECHNICAL CAPABILITES
AT A GLANCE

The pilot rolling mill is designed to mirror the behaviour of industrial KOCKS equipment, allowing trials under realistic rolling conditions. Adjustable pass designs and controlled process parameters make it possible to simulate different rolling routes and to systematically test new concepts before they are implemented in full‑scale production.
