MODELLING THE ENTIREROLLING PROCESS

Process Consulting

Modern long product mills increasingly rely on digital tools to understand, design and optimize their rolling routes. KOCKS Process Consulting combines metallurgical expertise with powerful simulation technology to support producers in improving processes, stabilizing quality and making better decisions before changes reach the mill floor.

MODELLING THE PROCESS

FROM PHYSICAL MILL
TO DIGITAL TWIN

Simulation of the entire rolling process and its representation as a digital twin is state of the art in modern rolling mills. With a consulting approach based on the KOCKS Microstructure Simulator (KMS), KOCKS offers a focused consulting service to support long product producers.

KMS acts as semi‑empirical system that describes temperature distribution along the rolling line and calculates microstructure fractions, grain size and mechanical properties of the finished products. Already trusted by mills worldwide, the consulting approach of KOCKS allows sensitive points in the process to be identified early, so that rolling parameters and material concepts can be continuously reviewed and enhanced – before costly trials or changes in production.

RESULTS TO OPTIMIZE
YOUR ROLLING ROUTE

The KOCKS expert consulting based on the KMS provides a comprehensive picture of what happens along the rolling line, including:

  • Temperature distribution over the entire rolling route
  • Start and finish temperatures for forming processes
  • Grain size at the end of the process and during deformation
  • Microstructure fractions in percent
  • Hardness, tensile strength and yield strength of the finished product

KOCKS Process Consulting: Streamline rolling processes – from digital twin to practical recommendations for the real rolling mill.

TECHNOLOGY, MATERIALS AND SIMULATION IN ONE SYSTEM

THREE MODULES FOR
REALISTIC SIMULATION

The KMS is the foundation around which the process consulting takes place.

Three modules that work closely together:

  • Technological editor
  • MatILDa® (Material Information Link and Database)
  • Simulator

During the calculation, the input data from the technological editor is supplemented with information from the database and transferred to the simulator which calculates the rolling process and models the phase transformation during and after the process.

The scope of the KMS is significantly extended through the MatILDa® database’s open interface for data exchange. This allows to add own existing material data and data gathered in future experiments and conduct various simulations of diverse rolling mill configurations and materials.
